News and Happenings in 2006

In 2006 we added a new node, made some repairs and added 9600 baud to the network. A new node was added to Mt Magazine. Repairs included the FSM site and ADEM. New antennas were installed at the FSM site. ADEM took 3 lightning hits and the Packet BBS and JNOS had to be repaired. We installed a 9600 baud port on the W5AUU Winlink PMBO and also put two network 9600 baud nodes online too. With the new FCC changes, we were using Pactor III, then not using Pactor III and back to using it again on the PMBO. The following frequencies are being used by W5AUU for Pactor, PIII speeds 7.101.20 and 10.146.20 , Pactor I and II speeds 3.593.00 and 7.068.90 . An 80m PIII speed frequency will be added in 2007 when the new R&O becomes law.

Nov 28, 2006 - The Winlink PMBO frequencies in use at the moment are: 7068.90 , 7101.20 , and 10146.20 . An 80m frequency will be added soon but will only operate at Pactor I and Pactor II speeds.

Nov 25, 2006 - Randy KG5NE reports the antennas were replaced for the FSM and FSM495 nodes.

Oct 1, 2006 - A new node was installed on Mt Magazine. MAG:N5XMZ-4 is on 145.010 and a 6m node is also in the works for this site. Thanks to Wayne WA5LUY for doing the work on the equipment for this project and to Dennis N5XMZ for his help with the new node and great site. As soon as pictures are available we will post them on this site.

Aug 21, 2006 - During the storms that came through ADEM took 3 lightning hits. Kenny KG5KS replaced a fuse in the tnc rack and everything came back up ok. We did have one PC that was damaged so the W5AUU Packet bbs is offline till at least next week. So for now the JNOS and FBB systems are offline. The Winlink PMBO is still in operation as well as the Conway node stack. The JNOS and FBB systems were repaired and are working fine.

Aug 19, 2006 - SPA repaired as well as SPA50. The tnc for SPA50 and eprom had to be replaced.

June 11, 2006 - The SPA node is offline and will return when the radio has been repaired.

June 10, 2006 - KG5KS now has a FBB BBS running with a HF port. The HF port is on 30m and he is part of a forwarding group between neighboring states that will pass traffic in and out of Arkansas. He also will add a 2m port that will link into the APN Network. This BBS is now off the air.

June 4, 2006 - The receive filter was changed in the IND96 radio and the deviation was set. The deviation was also set on NEA96 and there is some improvement in the communications between the 9600 baud nodes. Next item on the list is to do some antenna work at the NEA and IND sites to improve the 9600 baud link.

April 14, 2006 - A few weeks ago KG5KS installed a new 9600 baud node at the IND site, IND96. The radio needs to be changed, we found out the radio doesn't hear very well. The same radio was at NEA96 and KB5WBH changed that radio out today, it now has a FT-1500M. After testing the link does make a connect but doesn't hold up. After the IND96 radio has been changed out the link should be very good. If anyone wants to monitor the 9600 baud frequency, its 144.950mhz. Each node should ID itself every 10 minutes. Current plans are installing a 9600 baud node at Searcy, Ar. This will be a KPC-9612 with V7.0 K-Networking eprom  so the Searcy node will show up in any X1J4 node list. This could possibly link up the NEA area to Conway via 9600 baud.
